Winterfest Parade

Winterfest, a Hollidaysburg tradition, will commence this year with the annual Winterfest Parade through the streets of Historic Hollidaysburg on Sunday, November 23rd at 2pm, sponsored by McLanahan Corporation & Osgood Properties.  Join Mistress of Ceremony, Charlotte Ames from WTAJ-TV and pull up a chair along the parade route to watch as Santa march through the streets of Hollidaysburg.  Letters to Santa will be collected by the United States Postal Employees.  Hollidaysburg AMBUCS Club will be collecting food for local food banks and the United States Marine Corps will be collecting toys for their Toys for Tots Campaign during the parade.

 

Light-Up Night with Santa's Soup Sampling & Santa Land

Friday, November 28, 2013 from 5pm-7:30pm

 

Light-Up Night, which includes the lighting of the downtown and its Christmas tree on the Diamond as well as the AMBUCS star on Chimney Rocks will be held Friday, November 28th.  Light-Up night festivities will run from 5:00-7:30pm with the lighting ceremony at 7:00pm.  Master of Ceremony is WTAJ Weatherman, Joe Murgo.  Entertainment will be provided by the Hollidaysburg Alumni Community Brass Ensemble & Chorus and ice carving demonstrations by Tim Klock. Immediately after the lighting, fireworks will be shot from Chimney Rocks. Fireworks are sponsored by the U.S. Hotel Tavern, First Commonwealth Bank, and McQuaide Blasko Law Firm. This year’s Christmas tree is the biggest one yet with over 14,000 lights decorated on it.  The tree was donated in by the First Presbyterian Church of Hollidaysburg in memory of Harry Slep III.  Harry had planted the tree to thank God for his grandchildren.  Harry’s wife June and his family will be able to enjoy the tree on the diamond this year. 

 

Light-Up Night will also feature area restaurants competing in the

22nd Annual Soup Sampling Contest, sponsored by the American Legion Post 516.  This year’s confirmed participating restaurants are Black Dog Coffee & Catering, The Dream, the Knickerbocker Tavern, Main Moon Chinese, U.S Hotel Tavern, Prime Sirloin Buffet, Donut Connection, Argonne Café, Capitol Hotel, and Hoss’s Sea & Sea House.  Tickets are $6.00 per person and provide you with a sample of every soup (while supplies last) prepared by these fine area restaurants!  Purchase tickets that evening or in advance at Copy Rite & Banner Zone, 301 Allegheny Street or “Stuff” Unique Antiques, 401 Bedford Street.  After sampling you will have the opportunity to cast your ballot for your favorite area soup!

 

Other Light-Up Night Festivities planned for the evening include Santa Land, sponsored by the Hollidaysburg Area Education Association, Baechle Architects and Keller Engineers with free activities for children of all ages.  Santa Land will include a magician, cookie decorating and visits with Santa and many of his friends.

The Hollidaysburg Fashion Show 1pm on the Diamond in Downtown Hollidaysburg. Models will strut their stuff, while Mistress of Ceremonies Elle Collins describes their attire.  

Featuring fashions from Calico Cat Gifts, Diamond Bridal, JEG Boutique, JEMS Funky Consignments, & the Locker Room! Decor items will be on display from 321 Gallery, FINDS Furniture Consignment, Blair Mill Outlet, and "Stuff" Unique Antiques.  Hair will be done by the Cutting Crew and make up by Radiance Day Spa. VIP tickets $5, available at the above locations.  Ticket holders will receive a special discount at all participating shops!
